Rulers and guides

Rulers#

Press 2 or click Rulers to show rulers along the top and left edges, marked in the current unit, with a crosshair and a live readout that follow the cursor. The selection's extent is marked on the rulers in blue.

Origin

Rulers can count from the viewport, the document or the selected element. Press O or click the ruler corner to switch; the corner shows VP, DOC or EL. The element origin is skipped when nothing is selected.

Guides#

1. Press on a ruler and drag onto the page. The top ruler makes a horizontal guide.
2. Drag a guide to move it. Drop it back on its ruler to remove it.
3. Click a guide to make it active, then nudge it with the arrow keys: 1px, or 10px with Shift. Delete removes it.
4. Double-click a guide to type an exact position, in the current unit and origin. Enter applies it.

Guides snap to element edges and centres within 4px. Hold Ctrl (Cmd on a Mac) while dragging to place one freely. Gaps between guides are labelled.
